summer favorites

Sweet summer time. My favorite season. I’d rather be sweating than freezing, so this is my happy place. Mid-June in the midwest. Warm enough during the day to spend the whole thing in a pool, and cool enough in the evening to sit around the campfire. So far, this summer, these are some of the basic items that I default to, daily.

basic racerback tanks >> because I can wear them with a sports bra, which is so much more comfortable for summer, but they still look classic + casual // simple necklaces // Ray-Ban RB3136 Caravan Sunglasses 55 mm >> smaller than the traditional aviator and a better fit for my face // denim cutoffs // longchamp le pliage handbag >> it’s a bottomless pit, I’m pretty sure my kitchen sink would in fact fit inside and disappear // Sephora perfecting ultra-smooth primer >> LOVE this lightweight serum underneath foundation, especially in the summer! My pores disappear once this is on // EOS Organic Lip Balm Sphere – Sweet Mint // AEO cross-strap sandals >> equally as comfortable as my Birkenstocks & I love the feminine touch of gold.

And then, because let’s be honest, I spend probably 90% of my time in gym clothes, here are my current favorites for the easy going days and mornings at the gym:
Screen Shot 2015-06-19 at 3.15.40 PMPowerbeats 2 wireless headphones // Nike Women’s Nike Pro Tank // Nike running shorts // Nike Women’s Free 5.0 Running Sneaker // BlenderBottle SportMixer

I highly recommend the Powerbeats. They are pricier, but if you check them out on Amazon, there is a link to refurbished Powerbeats, they are sold through Amazon warehouse and just as good as the originals. I bought mine refurbished and saved a pretty penny! The sound quality is amazing. I can drown out whatever music is blaring over the speakers at the gym and lose myself in my workout. My favorite feature, though, is that I don’t have to strap my phone to my arm and have the cord of my headphones conflicting with my lift.

I clearly have a Nike problem. In my defense, I bought this pair on eBay. Because frugality, sticking to a budget, and all.

fun things

It’s been a little bit quiet around here, and my instashop. I tend to be a “jack of many trades, master of none” and get myself involved in quite a bit. In addition to my boys clothing boutique hobby, I am also creating + designing sugar cookies [you can check them out on the sugar & butter facebook page].

I also coordinate our local MOPS group, and with that beginning at the start of the school year, I have been busy with those details. Lovely, beautiful details. To love on momma’s and their kiddos.

And, truly trying to enjoy the last bits of summer with this brood of boys.

The boys’s closet [they all three share one, relatively small, closet] is a bit overcrowded these days, though, so you can expect to see some more action in the shop in the upcoming couple of weeks.

Blessings, my friends!

summer adventure list

This summer is a special one. The Oldest heads to kindergarten in the fall and I hope we have a summer full of adventure. Though, it has been stormy and rainy quite frequently. Today, I am thankful for our safety and dry basement, activities aside. Two large, old, beautiful trees in our yard fell to yesterday’s severe weather and it causes me to reflect on God’s goodness and mercies. The storm has passed, and the clean-up begins, and something new and beautiful will take over the space that those magnificent trees once filled.

summer favorites | for her

PicMonkey Collage

1) Women’s Vintage-Style V-neck Tees: super comfy and versatile, and my daily go-to tee. I love the length of these. They can be worn alone, easily layered :: dressed up with a statement necklace or dressed down with a basic pair of shorts, jeans, or leggings. [30% off right now!]

2) Gap Sexy Boyfriend Short: these are the best fitting shorts I have found in the last few years. These have a flattering fit through the waist and hip area for me [I love that when I sit down, I don’t feel the constant need to make sure I have pulled these up first, if you know what I’m saying] and I love the inseam length. [40% off right now!]

3) Birkenstock Gizeh Birkibuc: the best sandal, ever. They take some breaking in, so you may have to wear them around the house before attempting them in public, but once they mold to your foot, you’ll never look back. [I also love this style.]

4) C9 by Champion Seamless Sports Bra: these are awesome for an intense work-out [running &/or lifting]. Also, if I am not dressing up for the day and just sporting the summer basics from this post, this is my favorite. [and, currently buy one get one 50% off combined with select colors on sale right now!]

5) Nike Women’s Running Tempo Track Shorts: these are my favorite shorts for the obvious, running. However, these are also my go-to for a day of housework, play days, or running quick errands.

summer go-bag

There is a certain ease that settles in during the warm months. Mostly, the ease of getting three boys out the door quickly. Shorts, t-shirt, and shoes that slip right on to our feet. “Please put on your flip flops, Love.” Instead of the winter battle, “Come over here so that I can put your boots on. Find your jacket. Where is your hat? But, you HAVE to wear gloves and COME OVER HERE SO THAT I CAN PUT YOUR BOOTS ON!”

However, summer activities require “stuff” too [even heading out to the back yard to play, because GNATS and MOSQUITOES]. Enter our “summer go-bag”, which in my case features a LOT of “31” [+ a giveaway for you!].

A glimpse at my reality:

Our summer go-bag is pre-packed ready to grab and head out the door. While yours may look different than mine, here is how I make ours work // stay as organized as possible [which is sometimes simply organized chaos]:
imageimage

I begin with either the large utility tote [left] or zip-top organizing utility tote [right]. The large utility tote is perfect for events where we are going to arrive and stay in one place [picnic, pool, or if the boys stay overnight with family]. The zip-top organizing utility tote is our constantly packed, hanging in the entry way, multi-purpose bag // mainly because I can easily make it fit into the basket below the stroller, but also with the zippered top it can function as a shoulder bag. I am a huge fan of all of the outside pockets for keeping organized and finding items easily.

In the side mesh pockets I keep camelbak kids water bottles with ice water in one and baseball caps in the other. The smaller outside pockets are perfect for sunscreen [our favorite], bug spray [our favorite], sunglasses, stashing a cell phone and car keys, and a few band-aids. I also carry a few essential oils [deep relief roll-on for bumps + bruises, lavender for bug bites, cuts and scrapes, and stress away]. [if you have questions about essential oils, you can e-mail me and/or check out youngliving.com and use 1600697 if you sign up as a customer and don’t have a rep]

To keep the inside of our totes organized, I use:

1) pocket-a-tote: this is a small pouch with snapped-straps on the back of it allowing to easily attach to either of the utility bags above and keep smaller items at-hand. I keep a small amount of cash, my drivers license, and membership cards [zoo, museum, etc] in ours.

2) littles carry-all caddy: this is a perfect place to stash small toys [in our case, for the little brothers while we’re at t-ball games] or, if you are using the large utility tote [above] this is a great place for the smaller items like sunglasses, bug spray and sunscreen.

3) thermal zipper pouch: love love love this pouch. It is the perfect size for a small ice pack, juice boxes, string cheese, yogurt, produce and hard boiled eggs if you are going to be out-and-about at lunch time or just need to tote along perishable snacks.

4) zipper pouch: I utilize two of these zipper pouches [the size is perfect + functional] in our summer-go bag. One is the diaper pouch [diapers, wipes, a change of bottoms for the boys, extra outfit for the babe] and the other is our snack bag. Regardless of where we are going, with three young boys, leaving house with snacks is a must. Typical items found in our snack bag include: gogo squeeze, craisins, fruit snacks, cheerios, and granola bars.

I am teaming up with Jamie to give away the gift of 31 to TWO readers! The first drawing will be for the “littles carry-all caddy” and “zipper pouch” from us at three boys closet, and the second drawing for a $10 gift card from Jamie. To enter, see details below. This giveaway will end at NOON CST on Friday, June 13th, 2014. [link to my party] Click the Rafflecopter link to enter the giveaway!

current favorites

1) Basic tanks // Little boys in tanks; need I say more? [gap / old navy]

2) Baby Gap denim cut-offs // Normally, denim cut-off shorts are not something I’d find myself drawn to. I saw the look several times on instagram and couldn’t help myself. These are always on sale, too. And really, I have made two pair [from various washes of denim] out of jeans purchased for pennies on the dollar at Goodwill. I list Baby Gap in the description only because I ADORE the way Baby Gap clothing fits my boys.

3) Native Jefferson Shoes [on sale! at REI] // I discovered our first pair of native’s via consignment and quickly snagged another pair via instagram. Similar [old navy | ruum | gap]. It’s really all I can do not to buy these in allthecolors. I love that the boys can slip them on themselves, that they  are stinkin’ adorable, and that I can hose them off quickly. They are just safer for outdoor play than flip flops. [I do prefer the texture of the Native’s to the texture of Old Navy, for what it’s worth.]

4) The Original Salt Water sandal by Hoy Shoes // these are supremely classic. I love putting my boys in these for church on Sunday morning, and purchased them originally for their Easter outfits. I would put these with every outfit, but my boys do not enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoy putting them in them. Except the baby, he obliges me with his sea wees. We have these sandals in tan and navy. They are available all over instagram, especially following the account @saltwaterstrade.

5) Wayfarer sunnies // My favorites are the woodgrain sunglasses from Target [similar] & the traditional wayfarer from Baby Gap.
